Unfortunately due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, this year’s Warrior Guides program consisting of 86 pairs of West Chester area high school students and Chester 4th – 6th graders, was unexpectedly cut short. The group was unable to get together for their March Field Day event and April Community Collaboration Day. These students have invested so much into their relationships and have become good friends over the past year or three (as some have been paired for that long)! Bummed about having the program come to un abrupt end, we decided to organize a virtual event for our pairs to safely get together to properly wrap up their Warrior Guides experience. Our team organized a “Go Game” for our pairs to take part in. The Go Game is a professionally run virtual interactive game show.
The Foundation contracted with The GO Game to run 9 virtual game shows in 9 different rooms that were populated by 15 or so Guides and Braves in each room. The pairs logged on and played a variety of games together including Buzz In Trivia, Giphy Challenge, Pictionary Drawing, Head-to-Head Social Games, Fun Fact Match, and Categories. The Go Game host DJ’ed music, pointed out highlights and provided fun topical commentary. The kids were all engaged, laughed a lot together, and worked together to compete in a multitude of actives to earn points for their team. It was a great way to take advantage of great technology for a simple way to be able to see and interact with one another again – from a safe distance.
After the game was over, the host for each game played a wonderful and emotional highlight reel that showed pictures and video from the Warrior Guide events from earlier in the year that was put together by the Foundation’s Communications Specialist, Cait Lentz. There were also shout-outs to all the graduating seniors from Henderson! The event ended with a message from Karen Hicks, thanking everyone for their participation and encouraging them to stay in contact with one another and to register for the program again in the fall. Check out the video below for a glimpse at some highlights for the past year in Warrior Guides.
