Back in November of 2011, a group of friends from Christ Community Church reached out to the Hicks Family and offered to put on a golf outing in Andrew’s memory to raise money for Camp Paradise. They wanted to do it without requiring any work from the family or from the Foundation. This outing was to strictly be a GIFT and what a gift it was!
On Monday, June 18th, 58 golfers set out to play 18 holes on the gorgeous greens of Turtle Creek Country Club in Royersford, PA. It was a stunning day and the atmosphere was friendly and relaxed. The foursomes all drove to their starting hole and began with a shot-gun start. Everyone enjoyed the weather, the fellowship, the laughs and a little bit of competition as their were prizes for the lowest score, the longest drive and the closest to the pin!
At 5:30pm, everyone finished up and met underneath a beautiful tent for a bar-be-que style dinner on picnic tables. The food was absolutely delicious and the group enjoyed a slideshow from Camp Paradise 2011.
Prior to the Outing it was determined that about $10,000 was still needed to bring 80 children to Camp Paradise this year. The Andrew L. Hicks, Jr. Memorial Golf Outing raised over $10,000 towards this cause.
A very sincere thank you goes out to Debbie Goebel who participated in the Experiencing God Bible Study at church this past year. The study described a process by which believers can “experience God” in a profound way by recognizing an invitation to join Him in the work He is already doing, hearing Him speak to you directly, adjusting your life to cooperate with Him and then obeying His direction to you. Debbie felt God ask her to support the Foundation, Camp Paradise and the Hicks family by creating this Golf Outing and she and her husband, John made some major adjustments to their family life this spring in order to make the Outing possible. It is because of their obedience, and the others who served and participated that God’s work is continuing. We are so thankful!
“Such a heartwarming day – a day with the boys, then the uplifting message from the Foundation, about preserving and expanding the legacy of someone they obviously loved and revered, and now must carry on without. I’m a donor for life, and as soon as I get out from under college tuition, I will be a real advocate.”
“Thanks for sharing – great day, great group, great cause. Count me in for 2013 and beyond!”
“That was so much fun that day. Thanks again Krissy, Matt, Andrew for promoting and supporting such a great cause.”
