Hicks’ 3-Way Relay and Fun Walk took place on Saturday, April 16th at 10:30 am, right in the Borough of West Chester, beginning at Landmark Americana on the corner of Darlington and Market Streets. Almost 200 people either ran or walked in the Relay! The first leg of the relay was a one mile loop, bringing the runner back to a transition area where they would meet their second-leg partner. That runner would continue through a two mile course and transition to their third buddy who would finish with a three mile run through West Chester. Some relay teams were comprised of friends from school, others were family units and still others were just a group of people having fun and supporting the work of the Foundation.
Hicks’ 3-Way Relay was a fundraising effort, created by two of Andrew’s soccer buddies: Brendan Hayes-Oberst and Francis Cunningham. The goal of the event was to raise $3,000 to put towards the $15,000 needed to make Camp Paradise a reality this summer. The hope of the Foundation is to bring 80 children from Chester, ages 9-12 to camp at Paradise Farm Camps in Downingtown in August, and to have 40 local high school students be their camp counselors for the 4 days and 3 nights. The Foundation is paying $125 of the $150 cost for each Chester child. The Chester parent is paying $25 towards the cost and all local high school counselors are covering their own costs.
Hicks’ 3-Way Relay and Fun Walk was able to raise $8,000 towards the $15,000 necessary for camp! Between the Landmark Benefit Day, cash donations received during the Landmark Benefit, race sponsorship and race registration, the Foundation was able to crush its goal of $3,000! We are well on our way to making camp happen thanks to the West Chester community!
