“What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, ‘Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” James 2: 14-17
Kelly, Amelia and Kyle Hicks organized a Back-To-School Supplies Drive in August to benefit the underpriviledge children of Chester. Through Facebook they were able to advertise their efforts, asking for a total of 15 backpacks filled with supplies, but secretly hoping to attain 70. To our astonishment, in just 10 day the Foundation was able to accumulate 135 brand new backpacks and thousand of supplies for the children! Hundreds of pens, pencils, three ring binders, spiral notebooks, rulers, markers, packages of crayons, calculators, etc. were dropped off at the Hicks’ home.
On August 27th, all were organized, boxed, loaded into vehicles and driven down to Chester by Andrew’s family, high school friends & some neighbors. Upon arriving in Chester the goods were unloaded into a missionary’s home, sorted and set up on tables. Once the local children arrived, each West Chester student paired off with a Chester child (school supply list in hand) and the two picked out a back pack and went shopping together inside the house. 91 children were serviced that day out of this small row home and the remainder of the supplies were taken down to the Frederick Douglass Christian School (where Andrew lived during his summer mission week) to be distributed to their needy students.
