The Andrew L. Hicks, Jr. Foundation is pleased to announce that the 2012 Andrew L. Hicks, Jr. Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Matt Miller on June 7, 2012. Matt will be attending Shippensburg University in the fall of 2012 and he plans to major in Business, specifically, Marketing.
In order to qualify for this annual scholarship a student must:
Although Matt fulfilled each one of these five requirements, (volunteering 131 hours with the Foundation) the true reason that he was awarded with the scholarship is that he demonstrated an undeniable love for the children of the City of Chester and an uncommon enthusiasm for the work of the Foundation.
Early on Matt took on the first “senior project” of the Foundation as a junior. He attacked the Fall Carnival with such energy and it was a success because of his hard work and dedication. He engaged so much of the student body at Henderson and made their first experience with the Foundation really enjoyable.
Matt followed that up by running the Fall Carnival for a second straight year! Matt was also a Warrior Guide during our inaugural year and loved his mentee, Jordan. The two of them were together at Warrior Guide events every month during Matt’s senior year. It’s obvious to anyone watching that Jordan loves and respects Matt and Matt thinks the world of Jordan.
The Board of the Andrew L. Hicks, Jr. Foundation is thrilled to have been able to provide this scholarship to Matt. We are confident that he will continue to serve with the Foundation and that volunteerism will always be a part of Matt’s life. We know that the scholarship will encourage Matt to continue to use his gifts to serve his community, honor God, and remember Andrew. Congratulations, Matt! We love you and we will be praying for you!
