For the past three years, four neighboring high school ice hockey programs have competed in a pre-season tournament at Ice Line, in West Chester: Henderson, WC East, Rustin and Conestoga. Andrew played in the first two friendly tourneys where Henderson skated away with the championship both years. This year the Andrew L. Hicks, Jr. Foundation purchased a beautiful silver cup trophy to present to the winner of this tournament each year. The tournament is now officially called the West Chester Cup Tournament. The trophy has space to inscribe the winning school’s name and year on a small plaque on the trophy. The 2010 winner was Bayard Rustin High School.
Andrew’s dad, Andy, presented the Rustin team captain with the trophy on Monday, October 11th. Henderson’s name will be inscribed in the first two spots and the third spot will have Rustin’s name on it. The trophy, formally called the Andrew L. Hicks, Jr. Cup, is more affectionately called the Hicksie Cup in honor of Andrew.
