” Be STRONG and COURAGEOUS. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
On Sunday August 6, 2017 over 100 children were bused from Chester, PA to North East Maryland to spend 5 days/4 nights with over 50 high school and adult volunteers at Northbay Adventure Camp for Camp Lionheart! The children were greeted by a wonderful welcoming crew and celebration! After everyone was settled into their cabins the group was treated to a delicious dinner, served by our wonderful volunteer dining hall staff! After dinner, it was time for an awesome luau themed pool party and bonfire on the beach!
Monday brought some rain to Northbay, but that didn’t slow our group down one bit! Camp Lionheart went on as scheduled and enjoyed the high and low ropes course, zip lining, and a giant swing! After lunch the group came inside to get dry and played a variety of games in the theatre including a huge camp game of Simon says. After dinner, the group then competed in a cabin vs. cabin game of trivia. The night then ended with popcorn and a movie with everyone looking forward to some sunshine.
Water day! With warmer temperatures and sunnier skies, it was time for everyone to put their swim suits on and participate in some wet and wild water day games! The Lionheart boys and girls enjoyed lots of water relays including a wet game of duck-duck-goose and sponge races. Once everyone was thoroughly soaked, the fire hose and baby soap came out for a giant slip and slide! The smiles on everyone’s faces proved it was certainly a highlight of the day! After dinner the day concluded with a night hike and a huge game of capture the flag.
Starting the day with a group picture is bittersweet for everyone knowing the conclusion of camp is right around the corner- but that just meant a day full of fun activities would have to occur! The morning was spent with boat rides in the bay, to kayaking and zip lining. After lunch the group participated in all sorts of fun games in the gym including basketball, dodgeball, and a camp favorite- Gaga! The night concluded with an even more exciting Mardi Gras themed pool party and bonfire, with a beautiful sunset closing out the last night of camp.
Ending camp in style the counselors helped host a huge carnival for everyone to enjoy! There were all sorts of fun carnival games where the children could win tickets to then have the opportunity to dunk their counselor in the dunk tank, pie them in the face or even squirt shaving cream off their face! It was a wonderful way to conclude such a great week of fun. Many memories were made which made saying good-bye that much harder. But certainly had everyone looking forward to camp next summer!
We can not say thank you enough to all of the people who made this week possible. So many incredible people made such generous donations and we are so blessed and grateful for your support! And thank you to those who help us take on such a large undertaking year after year. With out your continued support none of this would be achievable in any way. Thank you!
