“Shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’”

Henderson High School’s mentoring club, Warrior Guides, is in its third year and continues to grow in size and in reach! This year we have 146 high school students matched up with 146 Chester children for the year! Mr. Andy Grear is the Club Advisor for the third straight year and is instrumental in recruiting the high school students and pumping them up to serve!
The Officers of the Club this year are: Lauren Andrews, Eric Howe, Amelia Hicks and Noah Richard. The goal of the club is to provide an opportunity to individual Henderson High School students to be a significant influence on the life of a Chester 4th, 5th or 6th grader who may need supplemental support, friendship or encouragement. Membership in the club comes with distinct responsibilities. Each high school student will be expected to participate in at least 5 organized, community events with their Chester mentee. These events are pre-established at the beginning of the school year and are completely organized and primarily funded by the Andrew L. Hicks, Jr. Foundation; however, each Henderson student does contribute $50 for the year and each Chester child is asked to contribute $20 for the year if they are able.
Participating Chester elementary schools are: Widener Partnership Charter School, Chester Charter School for the Arts, Chester Upland School of the Arts, Toby Farms Elementary, Drexel Neumann Academy, The Christian Academy, Concord Christian Academy and Chester Community Charter School.
Any mentors turning 18 years old prior to 10/6/13 will be required to have a Criminal Background Check done ($10) as well as a Child Abuse Clearance ($10) and their name will be run against the Megan’s Law National Sexual Offenders Registry when they turn 18. Directions on how to complete that necessary paperwork can be found by clicking here.
Chester parents are encouraged to attend at least one event per year. We would love for you to see what your child is experiencing and your attendance will help us sufficiently chaperone each event. Please call Karen Hicks at 484-390-0689 if you would like to help out at any of the events this year!
